How to use Age Calculator

The calculation of a person’s age can vary across cultures, each adhering to distinct age systems. This age calculator operates based on the prevalent age system, where age progression occurs on an individual’s birthday. For instance, if someone has lived for 3 years and 11 months, their age is considered 3 until their next birthday, which occurs one month later, at which point their age becomes 4. This approach to age calculation is commonly used in most Western countries.

However, diverse cultures express age differently, often counting years with or without including the ongoing year. For instance, a person who is twenty years old may be considered the same age as someone in their twenty-first year of life in certain cultural contexts. In the traditional Chinese age system, individuals are deemed to be age 1 at birth, and their age advances during the Traditional Chinese New Year, rather than on their specific birth date. For instance, a baby born a day before the Traditional Chinese New Year would be considered 2 years old just two days later, despite being only a few days old.

The output from this age calculator might lead to confusion in some scenarios, particularly when the calculation involves the conclusion of a month. For instance, the calculator considers Feb. 20 to Mar. 20 as one month, but there are differing methods to calculate age based on dates like Feb. 28, 2022, to Mar. 31, 2022. If we count Feb. 28 to Mar. 28 as one month, the result is one month and 3 days. However, if we consider both Feb. 28 and Mar. 31 as month-end dates, the result is one month. Both calculations can be justified, contributing to confusion, primarily due to the varying number of days in different months. For consistency, our calculations utilize the former method for determining age intervals.
